Hi Census Junkie,
Saw your great research on James Conroy. He was my grandfather. I have his baptismal record from Rosenallis that I can send to you and maybe more info for from my cousin as well. Great job!
Hello! Thanks so much for reaching out. When you say James do you mean James from Capard who married Catherine Heffernan, or his son James who emmigrated to the States? Either way, whatever you wish to share would be great. I’ll send you my email.
This has to be my grandfather. His mother was Catherine Heffernan. I’ve been over to the area several times and the old house site from when they were forced out of Capard is still there but it’s just a couple of stone walls. There are no more Conroys but there are relatives still there. The story I got is that he went back because he didn’t like it here but when he got back to Ireland he had to cut peat and all it did was rain so he came back. My Aunt Agnes lived in Watertown, Massachusetts. Her real name was Bridget, she changed to anglicize it
